ShanghaiTech team makes breakthroughs with discoveries about bitter taste receptors
A research team led by Professor Liu Zhi-Jie and Assistant Professor Hua Tian of iHuman and SLST at ShanghaiTech has made a new breakthrough in the field of human bitter taste receptors. The results were just published in a research article entitled “Structural basis for strychnine activation of human bitter taste receptor TAS2R46” in Science on September 16.

iHuman team and collaborators designed novel non-hallucinogenic and rapid-acting antidepressant compounds
On January 28th, in the journal Science, research groups led by Dr. CHENG Jianjun (iHuman Institute, ShanghaiTech University) and Dr. WANG Sheng (Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, CAS) reported protein structure-directed design of novel rapid-acting antidepressant compounds, which could accelerate the discovery of non-hallucinogenic psychedelic analogs.

A team of scientists from ShanghaiTech University, Tianjin University, and The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)/ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) have solved a long-standing mystery of Z genome that comprises entirely non-canonical Z-T base pairs instead of canonical A-T base pairs in bacteriophages.
