The primary focus of the Stevens laboratory is structure-based drug design and the advancement of technologies tomake rationale drug discovery more reliable and robust. TheStevens lab has helped to develop several marketed or latestage clincial drugs – Tamiflu for influenza virus (market),Kuvan for PKU (market), Nesina for type II diabetes (market),ozinimod for multiple sclerosis and inflammatory boweldisease (completed Phase III), pegvaliase for PKU (market), and namacizumab for liver brosis (Phase II). Our lab has also helped to develop automation, miniaturization,and accleration technologies including nanoliter volumecrystallization and imaging, membrane protien crystallizationtechnologies, and high throughput protein expression andpurification technologies. These developments and drugdiscovery programs have led to 5 biotech startups, all involvingstudents in the Stevens research laboratory.
