Mini-Symposium of Applications of Fluorescence Imaging in Biology

On January 19th, the Mini-Symposium of Applications of Fluorescence Imaging in Biology, organized by iHuman Institute of ShanghaiTech University and Shanghai Society of Biophysics, was successfully held at Auditorium at Ren Building, ShanghaiTech University.

The keynote speakers of the Mini-Symposium include the professors and researchers from Peking University, the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry and the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences, ShanghaiTech University, and expert from world-class company in super-resolution fluorescence imaging industry. They presented the comprehensive review, advances and prospective studies of the single molecule and fluorescence imaging techniques and applications in the biophysics, biochemistry, the structure and function of molecular, cytobiology and medical science. The scientific symposium also attracted about 80 participants from universities, institutes and companies.

The chair of the Mini-Symposium is Dr. Guisheng Zhong, the Research Associate Professor of iHuman Institute and the Assistant Professor of the School of Life Science & Technology. Professor Zhijie Liu, the Executive Director of iHuman Institute, delivered the opening remarks, and shared his perspectives of the symposium to the Virtual Human project, which is one of the key programs in ShanghaiTech.

The first part of the Mini-Symposium focused on the applications of single-molecule imaging technologies at the molecular and subcellular levels. Professor Yujie Sun from Peking University and Professor Hongda Wang from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, CAS presented their research progress respectively in Chromatin DNA and cell membrane structure and dynamic function using single molecule technology. The second part of the Mini-Symposium demonstrated the technologies and applications of fluorescence technology at the cellular and tissue levels. Guoqing Li from Leica Microsystem shared the state-of-art products of nano super resolution microscopy, Professor Kai Wang from the Institute of Neuroscience, CAS and Professor Guisheng Zhong from ShanghaiTech reported the advances of the volumetric imaging of whole brain neural activities in Zebrafish and the fluorescence imaging of the cochlea.

The Mini-Symposium created a platform for scientists and technologists to share the research progress and explore the collaborative opportunities. As one of the series of Virtual Human – Imaging Across Scales, the Mini-Symposium boosts the research and applications of fluorescence imaging in biological and medical sciences.
