March 28, 2018 - Richard Lester, Associate Provost and Bruce Tidor, Professor of Biological Science and Computer Science both of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), visited ShanghaiTech and met with President Mianheng Jiang this morning.
ShanghaiTech Provost and Vice President Jie Yin introduced ShanghaiTech, followed by presentations on the School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST) by Professor Chia-Kuang Tsung and the School of Life Science and Technology (SLST) by Vice Dean Jilong Liu.
Since 2015, when ShanghaiTech and MIT started a 3+1 student exchange, six ShanghaiTech undergraduate students have studied at MIT as a visiting student for one semester or one year. President Jiang said the program is highly competitive and is a win-win, as ShanghaiTech sends their best students to MIT for the program. Professor Lester agreed that the program was very successful and the two confirmed they would like to continue the student program and also explore cooperation in faculty development and curriculum design.
After the meeting, the MIT delegation visited the EM in the School of Physical Science and Technology, the Mass Spectrum and NMR at the iHuman Institute and the Molecular Imaging Facility of the School of Life Science and Technology. iHuman’s distinguished Adjunct Professor Kurt Wüthrich (2002 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry and recent recipient of the Shanghai International S&T Award), discussed the NMR with the visitors.
