iHuman Institute is an international effort established as a research institute located on the campus of ShanghaiTech University. The institute is a gateway to the world of Shanghai life science research. What makes iHuman Institute special is that it is focused exclusively on basic and applied science of human cell signaling, integrating multiple tools for scientific discovery, and bringing together leading researchers throughout the world. Cell surface receptors and their related intracellular proteins are responsible for human cellular communications with each other and their environment. They are involved in a wide range of physiological activities. Such a central role in human biology makes cell signaling the target of intervention for tuning physiological responses and fighting numerous conditions and diseases. These proteins are central to understanding the evolution of humankind and human cognition at a molecular level.

Current research of the iHuman NMR team led by Prof. Kurt Wüthrich and Prof. Dongsheng Liu includes all aspects of biomolecular NMR spectroscopy in solution and structural interpretation of NMR data. The NMR equipment includes two new spectrometers operating at 1H frequencies of 600 and 800 MHz (Bruker), with peripheral hardware for micro-coil experiments and high-sensitivity 19F-detection. The NMR team operates a molecular biology/biochemistry laboratory for functional and biophysical studies of proteins, in particular for investigations of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their interaction proteins, and for the preparation of isotope-labeled proteins in supramolecular complexes for NMR studies. Present applications of solution NMR techniques include studies of the glucagon receptor (GCGR), the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) and other GPCRs, with special focus on studies of function-related local polymorphisms, and on dynamic processes governing transitions between locally different conformations in inactive and activate-like states of GPCRs.

The iHuman Institute NMR lab is currently looking for outstanding candidates for postdoctoral positions in solution NMR study of GPCRs. We offer a competitive salary, benefits, and subsidized campus housing.

We expect applicants to meet the following requirements:

1) Ph.D. degree in structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or chemistry. 

2) Candidates with experience in advanced biomolecular NMR spectroscopy are especially encouraged to apply.

3) As the research will be carried out in an international and interdisciplinary environment, excellent communication skills and good skills in written and spoken English are required.
