The Thompson Lab in the iHuman Institute at ShanghaiTech University is accepting applications for Technician and Postdoctoral researcher positions.
The Thompson lab is focused on using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to understand the brain’s function, in particular brain metabolism and effects of metabotropic receptors.
1: Bachelor’s degree in one of the following majors: Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, orsimilar.
2: Master’s degree or PhD ispreferred.
4: Experience with animal anesthesia induction and maintenancepreferred.
5: Excellent communication and writing skills in English andChinese.
Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1: Gas, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal anesthesia induction in rats andmice.
2: MRI safety examination for normal, healthy humansubjects.
3: Fixation and positioning of animal or human subjects inMRI.
4: Running MRI sequences asinstructed.
5: Making orders of equipment andreagents.
6: Providing organizational support to coordinate experiments of researchers within thelab.
7: Training other lab personnel on animal anesthesia, MRI safety, and other MRIprocedures.
8: A few other minor tasks, such as English‐Chinesetranslations.

Accepting applications for a postdoc position in Prof. Garth Thompson’s lab at the iHuman institute at Shanghaitech University.
We seek candidates who have a keen interest in linking macroscopic observations of the brain from psychology to molecular characteristics of the brain from biochemistry. Successful candidates will develop novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods with a focus on linking the receptor level to macroscopic brain networks. The goal will be to both to develop imaging techniques, (MRI and potentially PET in the future), which translate from animals to humans, and also, working with collaborators at iHuman, to guide drug development through better understanding psychological disease mechanisms.
Ideal candidates would also be highly motivated to challenge existing models of large‐scale activations in the brain by advancing the understanding of underlying mechanisms on a neural, metabolic, and molecular level.
Qualifications and responsibilities are as follows:
2: Publication record in peer‐reviewed journals is required. Published work in preclinical MRI will be preferred. Candidates with strong evidence of collaboration across multiple fields will bepreferred.
3: Successful candidates will design and conduct experiments, and present their results at scientific conferences.
